    Kurzgeschichten sind das ideale Format des science fiction-Genres, das ist eine Binse.

    Zugleich hing immer dem Klischee an, scifi altere schlecht. Dafür sprechen Werke wie Asimovs Foundation, Stranger in a Strange Land, oder The Moon is a harsh Mistress, die mir alle nicht zusagten, auch weil sie so altbacken wirken.

    Diese Reclam-Ausgabe vereint ein gutes dutzend stories, von denen keine nach 1970 erschienen ist – und sie sind alle gut, viele sogar sehr gut.

    Natürlich spielen viele von ihnen mit Ideen, die damals sicher noch originell sind, es heute aber nicht mehr wären. Aber genau diese Pionier-Stellung ist spürbar und bereitet beim Lesen Freude.

    As Mastodon is growing, it becomes clear that many of the problems that we face in social media aren’t solved by simply replacing monolithic corporate-owned infrastructure with a decentralized one. That – it seems – was the easy part. The hard problems appear to be sociological. How do you protect an individual from an angry mob? How do you find out if the mob’s anger is justified or not? We can’t hope to answer these questions with technology.
